tri love

Tri love is a wonderful thing.  It makes you do things you normally wouldn't do, say things you normally wouldn't say.  It is as deep and enduring as true love.
Steve has done a few triathlons in his time and currently still holds the ward (not world) record. He is strong and he is fast.  I have wanted to do a triathlon for a while.  We realized there was one coming up right here in Issaquah: the Lake Sammamish Triathlon on August 24.  I wanted to go for it and Steve said he would do it with me--show me the ropes, stick with me, help me out.  True love, right?!  I figured I could do anything with that kind of promise, so we signed up 9 days before the race.

However, I wasn't exactly sure if it was tri love.  Steve is pretty competitive and I wasn't positive that he would actually stay with me in the heat of everything on race day.  He insisted he tri-ly loved me, though, and would not leave me in the dust.
And so it was.  We both finished with a 10:11 .25 mile swim; a 53:51 14 mile bike ride; and a 29:22 3.2 mile run to finish with an official time of 1:38:22 (transition times: 3:42; 1:14).  I added about 22 minutes to his ward record time of 1:16.  I met all of my goals, though,  and was happy to have finished without drowning, without crashing, and without walking.

But most of all, I was happy to have finished with Steve.
This is tri love.
